Cássio; Fagner, Pedro Henrique, Pablo e Guilherme Arana; Gabriel e Maycon; Jadson, Rodriguinho e Romero; Jô.

Cricinfo staff24-Sep-2008Stuart Binny smashed 86 off 53 balls but it was not enough to prevent Hyderabad Heroes from slipping to a five-wicket defeat against Delhi Giants in Hyderabad . Binny hit four sixes and eight fours, but none of the other batsmen could score at over a run a ball, and Hyderabad were restricted to 144 for 5. Left-arm medium-pacer Shalabh Srivastava took 2 for 28 for Delhi while TP Sudhindra bowled an economical spell of 1 for 14 in four overs. Delhi opener Dishant Harendra Yagnik led the run-chase with 52 off 41 balls. He received support from Jai P Yadav and Abbas Ali, who scored 23 and 31 respectively, and they reached the target with seven balls to spare.Chandigarh Lions’ captain Dinesh Mongia struck an unbeaten 72 off 40 balls to seal a comfortable six-wicket win against the Mumbai Champs in Bangalore . Chasing a target of 136, Chandigarh lost opener Manish Sharma in the first over and then slipped to 44 for 4. Mongia held one end up, hit nine fours and two sixes, and received support from wicketkeeper Sarabjit Singh, who made 25, to see Chandigarh home in the 18th over. Earlier, Delhi had struggled to 135 for 7 off their 20 overs. Opener Robin Morris top scored with 46 but his team kept losing wickets at regular intervals.Aggressive innings from Royal Bengal Tigers’ top three batsmen drove them to 193 for 4 against Ahmedabad Rockets and helped set up a 72-run win in Hyderabad. Deep Dasgupta scored 22 off 17 balls but it was Rajiv Kumar’s 79 off 58 balls and Abhishek Jhunjhunwala’s 64 off 39 that propelled Bengal to a formidable total. None of Ahmedabad’s batsmen got going, Sachin Dholpure’s 20 was their highest score, and they were dismissed for 121 in the 19th over. Eklak Ahmid, Mihir Diwakar and Shibsagar Singh took two wickets each for Bengal.
Marco Silva’s reign at Fulham could hardly have got off to a better start, with the Cottagers currently sitting top of the Championship table, having picked up 10 points from their opening four fixtures of the season, as well as enjoying a very successful summer transfer window.
Indeed, having already secured the arrivals of Paulo Gazzaniga and Harry Wilson this summer, Tony Khan recently revealed that Fulham have also landed a £7.2m deal for Flamengo centre-forward Rodrigo Muniz.
With a Carabao Cup fixture against Birmingham City coming up tonight for the Cottagers, the game against Lee Bowyer’s men could well provide Silva with the perfect opportunity to blood the 20-year-old into his side.
Indeed, the Brazilian seems to be an incredibly exciting prospect, having scored three goals, registered one assist and created two big chances over his nine Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A appearances for Flamengo so far this year, returns which saw the youngster earn a highly impressive average SofaScore match rating of 7.16.
As such, the £2.7m-rated man would not simply appear to be a prospect for the future of Fulham – he is a player who boasts the ability to make a big difference for the club in their push for promotion this season.
It is likely that it will take the man who Khan dubbed an “exciting” talent a little while to adjust from the Brazilian game to England, but the relatively risk-free Carabao Cup clash against Birmingham could well be an ideal chance for Silva to see Muniz in action, as well as granting the striker valuable game-time as he becomes accustomed to his new surroundings.
Once the 20-year-old is up to speed in west London, we would not bet against him flourishing under the guidance of Fulham’s Portuguese manager – something we could well see the first glimpse of against the Blues tonight.

An update has emerged on Crystal Palace’s pursuit of Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah.
What’s the talk?
According to the Daily Mail, Palace are set to intensify their talks with Arsenal over a deal for Nketiah.
The report claims Patrick Vieira is looking to bolster his squad before next Tuesday’s transfer deadline and a move for Nketiah is due to pick up pace in the coming days.
Imagine him and Benteke
Vieira could land a dream attacking partnership by signing Nketiah as he could form an excellent relationship with Christian Benteke. They could be the little and large duo at the top end of the pitch to cause opposition defences problems this season, which is why Palace must ensure that they can get a deal over the line for the Gunners forward.
The 6 foot 3 Benteke won an impressive 6.8 aerial battles per game in 30 Premier League appearances for Palace last term. Nketiah, meanwhile, has a career average of 0.4 aerial battles won per game for Arsenal, which suggests that he struggles with holding the ball up and winning flick-ons for his teammates.
This means that Nketiah may not be the ideal option for Vieira when playing with one striker on the pitch. However, playing him alongside Benteke could create the perfect foil for the attack, with the Belgian striker able to provide the out ball by holding off defenders and allowing Nketiah to use his movement and pace to get in behind or pick up the ball in pockets of space.
The English forward scored five goals in ten starts for Arsenal last season in the Premier League and Europa League, which suggests that he has the quality to score goals at the top level if given the minutes. In 2020, Mikel Arteta hailed Nketiah’s personality as ‘immense’ and said that he is continuing to develop as a player. He said:
“I want him to keep doing what he’s doing. The way he played last night against those players, in those difficult conditions, for me is extraordinary at his age.
“He has an immense personality to play, confidence, he’s powerful and is developing in every area, I think. I have a lot of faith in him.”
This shows that Nketiah also has the potential to improve further, which is another reason why Palace must sanction this deal. They could be getting a player who could work well alongside Benteke, whilst also making an investment on a talent who could grow and become more valuable in the future.

Peter Marron, the head groundsman at Old Trafford, will leave Lancashire at the end of the year to pursue other opportunities as a freelance consultant .Marron, 53, has been at Old Trafford for three decades and has become one of the most respected groundsmen in the country. So highly regarded was he that in 2006 the county awarded him a benefit, an almost unprecedented award for a non player.”Peter has been thinking about this for sometime, and it’s something he and I have discussed at length over the past couple of months,” Lancashire’s chief executive Jim Cumbes said. “He’s been head groundsman here for 25 years, and there are things away from Old Trafford he would like to do, and felt if he didn’t do them now, he never would.”To my mind, he has been the best groundsman in the country for years. And I know he doesn’t win the top awards, but they tend to go to those with the flattest pitches, not necessarily the best cricket pitches! You just need to read the comments made by the England team and touring sides over recent years, and they are always full of praise for the pitches at Old Trafford.”He has just completed installing our new £600,000 start-of-the-art drainage system and outfield, and will be kept busy over the coming weeks overseeing the turfing and maintenance of this. It’s not the last we will see of him, as I fully expect him to be driving the re-orientation of the square when that takes place at the end of 2009, it’s just he won’t be here on a full-time basis.”On making the decision Peter Marron said; “Not many people can come to work each morning and honestly say they love their job, but I can. However, when you’ve been doing it for as long as I have, you get to a point when you need a new challenge and want to use your knowledge in a different capacity.”Lancashire and Old Trafford is a massive part of who I am. I’ve had the best and the worst of times whilst working here, and over the years some work colleagues have become my closet friends. But there is a big wide world out there, and you just know when it’s time to pass over the reins and try something new.”

Left-arm swing bowler Lonwabo Tsotsobe has been included in South Africa’s squad for the three-Test series in Australia starting in December. Left-arm spinner Robin Peterson is the other addition to the 13-man squad named for the home Test series against Bangladesh, and would provide cover for first-choice spinner Paul Harris, who fractured his left thumb during the first Test in Bloemfontein.Andre Nel, who had been omitted from South Africa’s Test and limited-overs teams for the recent home series against Bangladesh and Kenya, was not considered for selection after he underwent surgery to repair knee ligament damage. There is also no place for Herschelle Gibbs, who has not been part of the Test side since he was dropped for the tour of Bangladesh earlier this year, with Neil McKenzie firming a spot at the top of the order.Tsotsobe, who plays for the Eastern Province and Border franchise Warriors, has been picked after an impressive showing in the domestic season. In four first-class matches, he has taken 16 wickets at 18.12. Tsotsobe, 24, was also the leading wicket-taker for South Africa A in the recent two-Test series against Sri Lanka A, held in August-September.”We have felt for some time that we need to explore the left-arm swing variety to add an extra dimension to our attack and Lonwabo Tsotsobe made a good impression at the recent national camp we held in Kimberley,” Craig Matthews, acting convenor of selectors, said. “With an injury worry over Paul Harris, we have Robin Peterson ready to step up if needed. He took a five-wicket haul in his last Test against Bangladesh.”However, Tsotsobe and Monde Zondeki will find it tough to break into a Test attack led by Dale Steyn on the tour, with Makhaya Ntini and Morne Morkel the likely first-XI candidates. “We have maintained the policy of consistency that has served us well over the last couple of years,” Matthews said. “The starting line-up chooses itself and we feel we have good cover for all eventualities.”South Africa will be led by Graeme Smith, who has forged a formidable opening pair with McKenzie this year. Middle-order batsman Ashwell Prince will be Smith’s deputy on the tour, with Mark Boucher as wicketkeeper. The form of Jacques Kallis, though, will be worrying for coach Mickey Arthur, who is one of the many voices to state this is South Africa’s best chance of beating them in a Test series. South Africa have never won a Test series in Australia, and not one against them since readmission. Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers and JP Duminy are the other batsmen included to tour. After their tour of Australia in December-January, South Africa will host Australia for three in February-March. The South African Test side has had a successful stint heading into the tour, with away series wins against Pakistan, Bangladesh and England, home successes over New Zealand and West Indies and a drawn series in India.”The team has earned the right to be confident with the results they have had,” Smith said. “I have a lot of confidence in the players I have around me. We go there with a mature, settled environment. Everyone knows their roles. We will arrive with a clear goal in mind.”We’re going to be challenged on an Australian tour but like the England tour I am confident we can meet them. We’ve got the players to do well there.”South Africa squad: Neil McKenzie, Graeme Smith (capt), Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis, Ashwell Prince, AB de Villiers, Mark Boucher (wk), JP Duminy, Paul Harris, Morne Morkel, Makhaya Ntini, Robin Peterson, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe and Monde Zondeki.
