Manchester United will be aiming to bounce back from consecutive defeats when they host Villarreal in Group B of the Champions League this evening.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s charges suffered a shock loss on the opening day of Europe’s elite cup competition, going down 2-1 against Young Boys following Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s early red card.

And United haven’t responded to that result in the manner that they would have hoped, losing two of their following three fixtures since.

A calf injury picked up by captain Harry Maguire last time out is set to add to the Red Devils’ woes, but the club’s hierarchy are hopeful that left-back Luke Shaw will have recovered in time to feature from the off.

With that in mind, here’s how Football FanCast expects Solskjaer to line up at Old Trafford, with two changes from the side that started against Aston Villa over the weekend…

In goal, David de Gea’s spectacular return to form sees him keep his place between the sticks, meaning Dean Henderson is set for another frustrating evening watching on from the sidelines.

Ahead of the Spanish shot-stopper is set to be a much-changed back four. Maguire’s injury has ruled the £45m-rated beast out of action, while Wan-Bissaka’s suspension means Diogo Dalot and Victor Lindelof will accompany Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw in the backline.

The engine room will have a much more familiar feel to it, though. Solskjaer is expected to persist with a double pivot of Fred and Scott McTominay, despite recent criticism, in an attempt to provide stability to United’s midfield.

In attack, World Cup-winner Paul Pogba is set to take up residency on the left wing with Mason Greenwood on the opposite flank and Bruno Fernandes just behind compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo.

It’s a front four that should strike fear into any defender’s heart, but they failed to find a breakthrough against Villa and will be desperate to put things right in midweek.

Mas essa força do mando de campo foi por água a baixo assim que o jogo começou. Aos três minutos, Zé Rafael levantou bola na área e Rodrigão, estreante como titular, subiu mais alto que a zaga e cabeceou no contrapé de Aranha para colocar o Leão na frente. Depois, a equipe de Jorginho se preocupou mais em se defender do que atacar, oferecendo espaço para a Macaca chegar ao campo ofensivo.

Chegava, mas pouco criava. Sem Cajá na criação, a Ponte tinha muita dificuldade de chegar ao gol defendido por Jean. A melhor chance da equipe mandante foi com Jadson, que infiltrou pela direita e chutou na trave. Gilson Kleina percebeu a falta de inspiração do time e mudou antes mesmo do intervalo. Colocou Yuri no lugar de Claudinho, que saiu muito irritado. No intervalo o placar apontava 1 a 0.

O segundo tempo começou como um replay do primeiro. Logo aos oito minutos, Lucas Fonseca deu chutão e a zaga da Ponte parou. Rodrigão dominou, ficou cara a cara com Aranha e teve a tranquilidade de driblá-lo e mandar para dentro: 2 a 0 para o Bahia no começo da segunda etapa.

A Macaca sentiu muito o gol. Continuou mantendo a posse de bola, mas sem a mesma pegada de quando o placar apontava 1 a 0. Kleina tentou mudar as coisas ao colocar Xuxa no lugar de Jadson, mas a equipe continuou muito previsível e sem assustar. O Bahia, muito tranquilo, se defendia e saía rapidamente pelos lados do campo.

A partir dos 20 minutos, o time de Jorginho passou a cozinhar o jogo. Conseguia manter a posse de vez em quando, evitando que a Ponte conseguisse chegar. A Macaca, por sua vez, não mostrava mais poder de reação, muito abalada com os dois gols sofridos no começo de cada tempo. Aos 39, o golpe fatal. Em contra-ataque, Renê Júnior recebeu de Vinícius e fez o terceiro do Leão. O 3 a 0 colocou a Ponte na 16° posição, lugar antes pertencente ao Bahia, que, por outro lado, subiu para o 13° lugar.

Lots of Everton fans have been left gushing over some footage that has emerged of the site where their new stadium is going to be built.

As shared by the official Twitter page of the Goodison Park faithful, the footage shows an aerial view of Bramley-Moore Dock, and where the proposed East Stand, North Stand, South Stand and West Stand will be for the new ground.

It also shows the hydraulic towers and pump sets used for the construction of the stadium, which is now underway.

Just watching the footage made it all so very real for the Merseyside club supporters, as they look forward to going into a brand new home when the construction is finished.

Stuart Broad was a fed up young man yesterday evening when he called the pitches in this series “terrible” and his mood didn’t improve on the fourth day as he had problems with the foot holes. He kicked at them, but quickly had some help as one of the groundstaff ran on with a section of two-by-four and a hammer. Some impressive pounding followed, although it didn’t seem to make much impression on a rock-hard surface. Or Broad’s mood.Broad’s temper
Broad got more and more frustrated. He tried to mix things up, but the tipping point for him was when a bouncer to Brendan Nash was called wide by Daryl Harper. Broad, a feisty competitor at the best of times, couldn’t bite his tongue and had a few words to say about it. At the end of the over he was less than impressed as he took his cap from Harper, who had a few words about calming down, so much so that Andrew Strauss was called in. The captain took his bowler away, gave him a pat on the back and promptly removed him from the attack.Nash’s nervous nineties
The most composed of batsmen can become a quivering wreck as a hundred approaches, especially when it is his first one in Tests. Nash was a model of calmness right up to the point of his landmark, then had problems even laying bat on ball. A fine spell of reverse swing from James Anderson had him fishing outside off stump, then another delivery jagged back into his pads. Then Nash lost the strike as Shivnarine Chanderpaul blocked out a maiden, but eventually the moment arrived as he tucked a brace into the leg side off Monty Panesar and the relief was clear. Many a worthy spell in Test cricket has gone unrewarded and Anderson’s efforts in this game must be well up there. His morning burst to Nash was superb, but it was his afternoon stint of constant reverse swing that was especially commendable. Ball after ball scooted past the edge, deliveries were edged through the slips and leg-before appeals turned down. Anderson looked as though he’d had enough of it all, then with the last delivery before tea finally got his first wicket when he trapped Denesh Ramdin in front. However, he didn’t have any energy left to celebrate properly.Two records missed
The chance to beat a record doesn’t come along very often and England missed two opportunities when West Indies were bowled out for 544. But they are the kind that aren’t too bad to miss out on. Matt Prior ended with the second-highest number of byes conceded by a wicketkeeper, 35, two behind the 37 held by Frank Woolley who was standing in for Les Ames in 1934, against Australia, at The Oval. Chris Gayle leads from the front. He limped out to bat with a runner, but more notable was the fact he led his team onto the field and then brought himself on for the fifth over of the innings. That wasn’t all, though, as he tempted Strauss into a loose drive and snaffled the return catch. He is desperate to play a leading part in a West Indies series win and nothing, not even a pulled hamstring, is going to stop him.

Celtic are currently sat in sixth place in the Scottish Premiership after eight games as the Hoops twiddle their thumbs ahead of a return to action next weekend following the second international break of the campaign.

The break could not have come at a worse time for the Hoops as their last match was their first win in three Premiership matches. Instead of having the chance to build some positive momentum, Ange Postecoglou has seen various members of his squad jet off across the globe.

One player who is away on international duty is Scotland midfielder David Turnbull. The former Motherwell man has been one of Postecoglou’s key players this season and is proving himself to be a quality option for the Hoops in the middle of the park.

Turnbull has been a phenomenal signing at Parkhead, having been brought to the club by Neil Lennon in the summer of 2020. He did not get off to the best of starts, though, as he began the 2020/21 campaign with one goal and two assists in 13 appearances, with eight of those games coming at Celtic.

This led to Transfermarkt valuing him at £1.62m in January 2021, less than the £2.7m Celtic reportedly paid Motherwell for his services six months earlier.

He was able to adapt to life in Glasgow, however, and enjoyed a terrific end to the campaign under Lennon as he finished on nine goals and eight assists for the Hoops in all competitions, having managed zero goals and two assists in his opening eight games.

The £7.4k-per-week wizard has carried that form over to the 2021/22 season with Ange Postecoglou in charge and the Australian already loves him. Turnbull has played 18 times in all competitions this term and produced six goals and three assists, starting all eight of Celtic’s Premiership matches.

Only Anthony Ralston, who has started six games, and Ryan Christie, who has since left the club, have averaged higher SofaScore ratings than Turnbull for Celtic in the Premiership. The attacking midfielder has averaged a sublime score of 7.60 across his eight starts, creating an eye-catching 2.8 chances per game for Postecoglou’s side whilst also scoring three times.

At the time of writing (11/10/21), Transfermarkt value Turnbull at £4.5m. This is a 177.7% increase from his value in January of this year, which shows that he has progressed immensely over the past ten months, now establishing himself as a favourite of Postecoglou’s.

Speaking about him in August, the Aussie said: “He has all the ingredients, physically, he works hard, great technique, good temperament.

“The challenge for David is not to put any limits on the player he can be and the levels he can reach.”

His game time this season shows that the Australian already feels that he can rely on the 22-year-old to churn out quality performances on a consistent basis. Managers love this in players as it means they can select them week-in-week-out without worrying about whether they will perform or not. Turnbull’s average rating proves that he has not let the manager down in that respect.

A expectativa pelo retorno de Junior Sornoza cresce a cada dia. No treino desta sexta-feira, no CT Pedro Antonio, o meia deu mais uma prova de que está mais próximo de voltar a defender o Fluminense, já que participou do treino com bola junto com os demais companheiros, ao menos nos minutos abertos à imprensa. Mesmo assim, o equatoriano ainda não é opção para Abel Braga.

Sornoza operou o tornozelo esquerdo no dia 22 de maio. O prazo inicial de recuperação foi de três meses, mas o retorno por acontecer antes do dia 22 de agosto. De acordo com o departamento médico, o meia está adiantado no cronograma, muito em conta da dedicação que vem mostrando nos trabalhos.

O técnico Abel Braga, que já ressaltou a importância que Sornoza tem para o time, preferiu não definir uma data para o retorno do equatoriano ao time.

-Ele já está participando dos treinamentos, mas ainda mancou um pouquinho, tem que tirar o medo. A recuperação dele foi fantástica, antes do previsto, mas não dá para falar (quando volta). Quando eu ver ele dividir, ver que está firme, é outro negócio. Ele é uma mais valia para a equipe – comentou o treinador.

Quem também trabalhou com bola no gramado foi o volante Douglas e o zagueiro Nogueira. O primeiro segue com situação indefinida por conta da artrite reativa, que causa dores articulares e atrapalha a recuperação física. Nogueira, por sua vez, recupera-se fisicamente após sofrer uma entorse no tornozelo direito. Sua última atuação foi contra o Coritiba, na 14ª rodada.

Já Reginaldo iniciou a transiçãopara a preparação física após recuperar-se do estiramento muscular da coxa direita e foi visto correndo em torno do gramado. O zagueiro havia conquistado a titularidade, formando dupla com Henrique, mas está fora desde o jogo contra o Coritiba, em 16 de julho.
