ESPNcricinfo staff26-Apr-2011Botswana captain Akrum Chand is confident that his aggressive approach will help his side as they host the World Cricket League Division 7.Chand, who previously captained in 2006, feels his experience will also be important for the side. “I wasn’t able to travel to Jersey in 2006 due to injury nor did I travel to Singapore for Division 6 in 2009 but I have captained the side previously and I’m looking forward to leading them again in this event,” he said.”I believe in being aggressive when it comes to our game – it will be about being on the offensive and not defensive when it comes to our matches.””We’ve been working very hard ahead of this tournament with the side dedicating the last six months to preparing for the event. We’ve been to Zimbabwe and South Africa for camps and I feel as a side we’re well prepared for the event.”The team is a mixture of youth and experience with a few players coming up from the under-19 side. Part-time wicketkeeper-batsman Karabo Motlhanka, all-rounder Waseem Tajbhay as well as fast bowler Segolame Ramatu are all good prospects in the side while we’ve experience in the likes of James Moses who has been playing for Botswana for over 10 years and knows what the team is about and how to guide the players if needs be.Kuwait and Germany are the new sides in the division and Chand conceded they will be an unfamiliar challenge. “We don’t know huge amounts about the promoted teams for this event,” he said. “But our coach Arjun Menon has worked with some of the other sides in the tournament and has given us some good background to help us prepare. When it comes down to it we will be focusing on our own game and see what we have on day of the games.”Chand admitted the rain in Botswana is a little bit of a concern at the moment but he is confident conditions will be fine come the event. “Although it has been raining a bit this week, I think we should be ok for when the tournament begins. We’re playing on AstroTurf so we can probably expect the ball to bounce and skid a little while the outfields are looking great. One bonus is we’re moving into winter so the temperature is a lot better for playing cricket, around 27 degrees rather than the usual 45!”

Rain has affected the whole series, with the Twenty20 matches and the first round of matches in the one-day series all being shortened.On Thursday, the game between Netherlands women and Pakistan women was reduced to a 20-over match but still there could be no play after Netherlands’ innings. The other match between Sri Lanka women and Ireland women was abandoned after Sri Lanka played their shortened innings of 48 overs.At the Nondescripts Cricket Ground Netherlands women were put in to bat and only managed to get to 68 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs. However, Pakistan women never got a chance to start their chase.Sri Lanka women reached 251 for 5 against Ireland women at the P Sara Oval, thanks to Atapattu’s 111 off 110 balls. Atapattu’s score was 23 runs more than the previous highest score by a Sri Lankan woman.

The visitors always looked on target for a fourth victory in as many games after some devastating late hitting from Matt Spriegel helped them to 257 for 7 batting first.Scotland’s bowlers had done well to rein in Surrey after an initial onslaught from Steve Davies and Jason Roy, but Spriegel helped his side take 52 from the final 20 deliveries as he finished unbeaten on 82 from 73 balls. It proved a match-winning blast as Scotland battled manfully in pursuit, but simply failed to supply the same type of power hitting to finish on 209 for nine. Neil McCallum top-scored for the hosts with 53 from 51 balls.After his batting heroics, Spriegel claimed the first Scottish wicket when he bowled Fraser Watts and when fellow opener Ryan Flannigan fell from the last ball of the 10th over Scotland were 50 for 2. By contrast, Surrey had been 93 for 1 at the same stage – after Davies and Roy’s powerful start – but the hosts patiently built towards the total in the middle overs thanks to a 72-run stand between McCallum and Preston Mommsen for the fifth wicket.Mommsen departed for a run-a-ball 45 when England Lions seamer Jade Dernbach had him caught by Tom Maynard but with McCallum in touch Scotland reached 200 in the 37th over – the same stage Surrey passed the mark. Eoin Morgan has been named as vice-captain of England’s Twenty20 side, and could be in line to lead the team in Saturday’s one-off international against Sri Lanka at Bristol, if Stuart Broad fails to recover from the bruised heel he sustained on the final day of the drawn Test at the Rose Bowl.An ECB spokesman confirmed to ESPNcricinfo that the appointment had been made, but added that Broad’s injury was not expected to prevent him from captaining England for the first time in his international career.
