Essas pessoas competentes serão convidadas a voltar.

Under-fire Kamran Akmal determined to improve

Kamran Akmal, the Pakistan wicketkeeper, has said he is keen to move on and improve as a wicketkeeper following a tough tour of Australia, where he came under great scrutiny. He said it was normal for all players to go through a bad patch once in a while and that the important thing was to learn from each experience. The nadir for Akmal was the second Test at the SCG, dropping Michael Hussey three times off Danish Kaneria on the third day after missing a run-out chance. He also dropped Peter Siddle off Mohammad Sami on the fourth morning. Hussey went on to score an unbeaten 134 and helped stretched Australia’s lead from 80 – at the end of the third day – to 175. Pakistan were the favourites to win on the fourth day but folded for 139 and lost the match by 36 runs and with it the series. Sarfraz Ahmed replaced him for the third Test.”Even the greatest players who have played the game have gone through rough patches in their career. Even the likes of Ricky Ponting have gone through slumps in their form,” Akmal told “The most important thing for me to concentrate on is how I bounce back from this. The Sydney Test match was a horrible experience. There is no point in making excuses over events in Sydney.”All I can do is to work hard on my cricket, learn from the events of Sydney and take on board the advice from colleagues and friends.”Akmal said advice from former wicketkeepers like Ian Healy and Wasim Bari has been forthcoming. He said his Australian counterpart Brad Haddin also spent time with him in Hobart, the venue of the third Test of that series.”Ian Healy has been very helpful to me and given me some excellent technical advice and tips,” Akmal said. “You can’t ignore advice from a wicketkeeper of such experience and pedigree. Brad [Haddin] chatted with me in Hobart about some technical issues and told me to keep my chin up. I’m so appreciative of the advice and time that both Healy and Haddin gave me and I’ll always be grateful to them.”He was also contacted by Bari, the former Pakistan wicketkeeper, who is now an official with the Pakistan Cricket Board. “Wasim Bari phoned me up after the Sydney Test match and we had a good chat. Wasim encouraged me and also told me to keep my spirits up. He is a very experienced wicketkeeper and his advice was also much appreciated.”Pakistan endured a miserable tour, losing all three Tests, five ODIs and the Twenty20. Akmal said that despite the series of defeats, the whole team had learnt plenty by just observing the professional work ethic of their opponents.”It’s tough, cricket in Australia, it’s hard work and you are thoroughly tested in every aspect of your game. The preparation of the Australians and their attention to detail is something that we can all learn from. There are so many things we can take from this tour and use to improve our cricket.”

Who Newcastle Should Sign After New Takeover

Newcastle just recently got signed by the Saudi backed consortium, meaning the finances of the club have been positively impacted. The ambitions that Newcastle could have now when it comes to making signings on the market are hugely promising and are being spoken about in anticipation. It is believed that a reported £250 million has been added to the pot for the next player re-make and infrastructure meaning the next transfer opening couldn’t come quick enough.

The latest football betting odds around Newcastle and their possible next player signings are talk of the sporting realm at the moment, and for good reason really. The previous owner Mike Ashley did not really spend a great amount in the past transfer windows, so we could see a huge flip in the flexibility that comes with the next signings to come. The question is, who should Newcastle sign now and who should be on their radar?

Aaron Ramsey

The past couple of years have been quite tough on the player. Running his contract through to the end from Emirates, he then went to join Juventus in the year 2019. While he won in Serie A for his first season, this did not allow him to be established as a key player within the city of Turin. In total within his time at Juventus, he made just 24 appearances, in the first year of debut and only 22 within the term to pass. Ramsey has an uncertain future within the club and a transfer most definitely is imminent for the player. It would make complete sense for the player to come back to the Premier League, and Newcastle to welcome him with open arms.

While there is still no news to make this idea promising, it is a fact that several clubs within the Premier League are considering reaching out to give Aaron a chance. It is believed the current high wages are what make Ramsey one to be scratched off the list, however Newcastle now have the funds to expedite him if they feel he is worth the splurge. While this decision is nowhere set in stone, January’s short transfer season will most definitely reveal all. Ramsey just needs to replicate his English football career and skills, to be a decent offer to consider-especially with Juve’s fee to offload him being pretty minimal most likely. Suppose time will tell on this one.

Philippe Coutinho

Philippe Coutinho is another player like Ramsey, who was in the league and pinnacle point of his career within the Premier League, yet it never went to plan seeking opportunities abroad. Once quite influential within his time at Liverpool, Coutinho struggled to find space to settle at Barcelona F.C., nor did he manage to convince Bayern to make his loan become a permanent position of a transfer, despite winning the treble of Germany.

Since 2020, he has been with Barcelona, and it is believed Coutinho is the next casualty that is set to go because of Barcelona’s financial worries. While Phillippe is still a good player, his age and skills are not on level with Liverpool today, to be given another shot of a return. For that reason, Newcastle could be a super fit and solution for the player, to help the club climb up the ladder in terms of rankings.

Milan Skriniar

Inter Milan is another club that has entered financial difficulties recently. After investing so much to build the team that is readily able to win Serie A, they were forced to tear down components of their team to make way for the financial issues that they face. One of those is Milan Skriniar.

While Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi were necessary sacrifices, there is still pressure for the owners to dissolve some unnecessary expenses on the team at hand. The annual wage bill is reported to be massively high and not sustainable if they want to see through the years ahead. Even though Milan is very happy being at Inter, with his contract expiring in 2023, it would make sense for him to possibly be put on loan until, or be transferred permanently to a different team and league all together. Newcastle would certainly benefit here, and it is very likely that it would become a possibility within January’s approaching transfer window.

Despite all the talks of transfers, it is believed that Saudi PIF are in talks of buying Inter Milan too, however this will only be approved once new stadium plans are verified to move forward. In the meantime, there are other potential players for Newcastle, including Lautaro Martinez and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.

Zaheer continues comeback trail

West Zone

In his second match in two days, Zaheer Khan, making a comeback from his shoulder injury, took two wickets to keep Gujarat down to 160. Rohit Sharma and wicketkeeper Aditya Tare chased the target easily to give Ranji champions Mumbai their second win, at the Deccan Gymkhana Ground in Pune. After Zaheer’s two top-order strikes, Jay Desai’s quick 41 and Bhavik Thaker (30 off 28 balls) looked to have given Gujarat the upper hand. The two compiled 58 for the fourth wicket to help them end on 160. Paul Valthaty provided some solidity during Mumbai’s reply, but at 79 for 3 in the ninth over, it was Rohit and Tare who took them through with nine balls to spare. While Rohit hit three fours and two sixes during his 33-ball 43, Tare clubbed five boundaries and two sixes en route to 49 off 36 balls. An all-round show from Ganesh Gaikwad took Maharashtra to their first victory of the tournament, with a narrow two-wicket win against Gujarat at the Pune Club Ground. Chirag Pathak (26) looked to have given Gujarat a solid start batting first, but two crucial strikes each from Sajin Sureshnath and Gaikwad kept them to 107. Gaikwad was once again at the forefront during the reply, securing the Maharashtra innings when they were stuttering at 51 for 4. His breezy 23-ball 33, comprising five fours took Maharashtra to safety, and Kiran Adhav and Sureshnath then sealed the victory with seven balls to spare.

East Zone

Parvez Aziz’s lightning 74 helped Assam continue their winning ways, with a 35-run win against Bengal at the Railway Stadium in Dhanbad. Opting to bat, Assam got off to a strong start with openers Aziz and Avijit Roy putting on 110 by the 13th over. Aziz tore into the opposition bowlers, smashing six fours and six sixes during his 44-ball innings. Offspinner Saurashish Lahiri picked up three quick wickets to keep Assam to 157. Bengal replied strongly during the chase, with Wriddhiman Saha and Deep Dasgupta putting on an opening stand of 53. But once Sairaj Bahutule made the initial inroads, Dhiraj Goswami and Sarupam Purkaystha ran through the middle and lower order, picking up three and two wickets respectively, to wrap up the Bengal innings in 17.4 overs.Orissa picked up their first points of the tournament, thrashing Tripura by 65 runs at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Dhanbad. Choosing to bat, Orissa were boosted by a string of forties from three of their top four batsmen. Having lost Natraj Behera for 7, Paresh Patel (41 off 39) and Niranjan Behera anchored the innings with a second-wicket stand of 50. Niranjan, who remained unbeaten on 44 off 42 balls, then combined with Rashmi Das to take them near the 140-mark. Das became Rana Dutta’s second victim, having hit four boundaries and two sixes during his 25-ball 45, as Orissa ended on 154. Having been dismissed for the lowest Twenty20 score ever in the previous match, Tripura’s disappointment continued as they folded for 89, with Patel being the pick of the Orissa bowlers with 3 for 16.

North Zone

Medium-pacer Jitender Billa’s three-wicket burst helped Haryana seal a 10-run win over Himachal Pradesh in Delhi. In pursuit of 147, HP lost early wickets but recovered to reach 126 for 4, with 21 needed off 9 balls. Billa then removed Abhinav Bali, who had threatened with a 45-ball 54, and dismissed Rishi Dhawan to ensure HP were beaten. Joginder Sharma supported Billa with two wickets. Haryana’s competitive score owed largely to an aggressive half-century from opener Ankit Rawat and some hitting at the death by Sachin Rana.Sunny Sohal and Ravi Inder Singh both scored 42 to deliver a strong start for Punjab, but their efforts were in vain as Delhi overhauled a target of 137 at the Palam A Ground with little difficulty. Barring the opening partnership of 75 between Sohal and Ravi Inder for Punjab, there was little support from the batsmen who followed. Rajat Bhatia impressed with three wickets and also starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 37, while boosted by important contributions from the middle order, to take Delhi home with five wickets and five balls to spare.Wicketkeeper Manvinder Bisla’s hurricane 75 handed Jammu & Kashmir a convincing nine-wicket victory against Services at the Palam A Ground. Mumtaz Qadir propped up Services to 127 with 51, including eight boundaries. He played a lone hand as the J&K bowlers, led by Samiullah Beigh (3 for 15), kept chipping away to prevent any batsman from playing a support role. While the opening stand for J&K yielded 57, Bisla and Hiken Shah’s unbeaten second-wicket partnership put on 71 to end Services’ hopes. Bisla smashed six fours and a six as J&K sealed the win with five balls to go.

Central Zone

Monish Mishra blitzed 84 off 37 balls to lead Madhya Pradesh to a comfortable six-wicket victory against Vidarbha in Indore. Chasing 164, Mishra hammered 10 fours and five sixes and by the time he was dismissed with the score on 118 in the 11th over, his team was comfortably placed. Jalaj Saxena and Abbas Ali scored 24 each as Madhya Pradesh reached the target with 15 balls to spare. Earlier Alind Naidu had scored 55 off 41 balls and Shalabh Shrivastava 44 off 27 to lead Vidarbha to 163 for 6 in 20 overs.

Warnock says Spurs were good vs Everton

Flocking to Twitter, lots of Everton fans have erupted over some punditry from Stephen Warnock.

As shared by Sky Sports Premier League on their official Twitter page, the former Liverpool player claimed that Tottenham Hotspur were ‘very very good’ against the Merseyside club at Goodison Park over the weekend, considering that it was only a week into Antonio Conte’s reign.

He also claimed that Spurs’ wing-backs caused Rafa Benitez’s team ‘problems’, despite the final score ending up 0-0.

The analysis has left several Toffees supporters baffled, given that the Lilywhites failed to record a single shot on target in the game, despite the hosts going down to 10 men after Mason Holgate was shown a straight red card (SofaScore).

In terms of their wing-backs, Emerson Royal did not record any dribbles, key passes or accurate crosses, while Sergio Reguilon was ranked as the worst player to have started the match on SofaScore, with a mere 6.3 overall rating.

Taking these individual performances from Tottenham’s defenders into account, these Blues erupted over Warnock’s punditry as it was shared on Twitter, with one even going as far as to claim that it was ’embarrassing’:

Wolves dealt Joao Palhinha transfer blow

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been dealt a huge blow regarding Joao Palhinha ahead of the January transfer window.

What’s the talk?

In recent comments cited by Portuguese publication Record (via Birmingham Live), the Sporting Lisbon midfielder, with whom Wolves were heavily linked during the summer, revealed that he is hoping to put pen to paper on a new deal with his current club in the coming weeks, all but ruling out Bruno Lage’s reported interest in a move for the 26-year-old this winter.

In his comments, Palhinha said: “I don’t know, you’d have to ask the chairman [regarding his contract extension]. I would like to renew my contract, you know perfectly. I’m in the national team and I shouldn’t even be talking on a personal level. People know perfectly well what [Sporting Lison] means to me.”

Lage will be gutted

Considering just how impressive Palhinha has been for Sporting so far this season, as well as Wolves’ lack of depth in the middle of the park, the news that the Portugal ace does not seem to be open to a January switch to Molineux is sure to have left Lage gutted.

Indeed, over his 11 Liga Bwin appearances this term, the £18.9m-rated gem has scored two goals and created one big chance for his teammates, as well as taking 1.5 shots and making 0.5 key passes per game.

The defensive midfielder has also excelled in metrics more typical of his position, making 0.9 interceptions and four tackles – more than any other player in the Portuguese top flight – and winning a whopping 9.8 duels per fixture.

These returns have seen the player who Ruben Amorim dubbed a “special” talent average a SofaScore match rating of 7.25, ranking him as the joint 18th-best performer in the league.

As such, it is clear to see that the £24k-per-week midfielder would have made an exceptional addition to Lage’s options in the heart of his Wolves side. However, following his latest comments, the possibility of Palhinha making a switch to Molineux now appears extremely slim, which will undoubtedly come as a huge blow to the Wolves manager.

WICB keeps stars out of Champions Trophy pool

West Indies’ leading players may have ended their strike but their board has confirmed that there will be no changes to the weakened 30-man pool it had named for the Champions Trophy earlier in the week.”The executive committee of the West Indies Cricket Board [WICB] wishes to confirm the initial squad of 30 players announced earlier this month for the ICC’s Champions Trophy in South Africa,” a board statement said. “This squad was chosen from among those players who declared themselves available for selection for the tournament within the deadline date for finalisation of the 30.”Chris Gayle and the other players who had boycotted the Tests against Bangladesh had made themselves available for international duty on Tuesday, but are yet to be picked by the selectors. Besides being excluded from the Champions Trophy, they were left out of the squad for the first two one-dayers against Bangladesh which starts on Sunday. The WICB and the West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA), which is negotiating on the cricketers’ behalf, agreed to resolve their dispute by mediation on Tuesday, after meeting with Guyana president Bharat Jagdeo, who is also chairman of the 15-nation trading bloc Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM). Both sides agreed to the appointment of former Commonwealth secretary general Shridath Ramphal as arbitrator.

Podence proved Bruno Lage wrong vs Villa

Bruno Lage’s Wolverhampton Wanderers side went into Saturday afternoon’s West Midlands derby in much-improved form, as after losing their first three league games of the 2021/22 campaign, the 45-year-old’s Wolves side had picked up nine points from a possible 12 over their last four fixtures.

However, after Danny Ings opened the scoring for Aston Villa shortly after half-time and John McGinn doubled the home side’s lead on the 68-minute mark, it appeared as if Wolves’ fine run of form would be coming to an end at Villa Park.

The latter of these goals led to Lage making a double substitution with around 15 minutes to go, bringing on both Fabio Silva and Daniel Podence for Joao Moutinho and Fernando Marcal respectively – a decision which would change the game completely.

Just five passes made

With Francisco Trincao being ruled out of the game after falling ill while on international duty with Portugal, there was something of a pre-match debate as to who should come in to replace the Barcelona loanee in the Wolves starting XI – Adama Traore or Podence.

While Traore did light up the fixture on occasion due to his remarkable strength on the ball and dizzying dribbles – of which he completed six – it was undoubtedly the Portuguese’s introduction to the game which began to turn the tide for Wolves.

Indeed, despite the £22.5m-rated forward featuring for just 16 minutes, as well as making only five passes and touching the ball just 14 times, the 25-year-old nevertheless ended the game with one assist and one key pass to his name. He played an influential role in his side’s thrilling comeback, with late goals from Romain Saiss, Conor Coady and Ruben Neves securing a famous 3-2 win over Wolves’ West Midlands rivals.

As a result of his efforts, Podence earned a SofaScore match rating of 7.3 – with only Saiss and Neves receiving a higher score for Wolves on the day – while The Athletic journalist Tim Spiers claimed that the Portugal international’s introduction to the game finally saw Lage’s side showing signs of “intent” in the match.

While it is impossible to know whether or not Podence would have had the same impact if he had started ahead of Traore, it seems certain that the £60k-per-week winger will ultimately believe that his performance proved his manager wrong – a sentiment that we wouldn’t argue against.

Wolves winger Neto could return in January

Wolves winger Pedro Neto could make his long-awaited injury return at some point in January, according to manager Bruno Lage.

The Lowdown: Neto missing for months

The young Portuguese star hasn’t featured at all yet this season, as he continues to recover from a fractured kneecap suffered back in April.

Neto had arguably been Wolves’ standout player in the 2020/21 campaign prior to that setback, scoring five goals and registering six assists in the Premier League.

It appears as though his return is edging closer all the time, however, acting as a boost for all concerned.

The Latest: Lage gives injury update

Speaking in his pre-Everton press conference on Friday [via The Athletic], Lage confirmed that he expects Neto to return to first-team action in mid-January, after undergoing his own pre-season schedule:

“The good news is everything is OK with his injury. Now he will start to work harder than he has.

“I think maybe he’ll start with the team in one more month. After he’ll need to do a normal pre-season, for two or three weeks, to work and be fit to play in this competition.

“Maybe in the middle of January we’ll have him in the stadium to start to play with us. He can work harder now, this is the good news.”

The Verdict: Play the long game

Any Wolves fan is going to be desperate to see Neto back on the pitch as soon as possible, but it is vital that the club handle him with care.

Rushing him back too soon could end up having dire consequences further down the line, so an element of caution is required with a player so young and full of potential.

Having Neto back from injury will feel like an almighty boost, though – pundit Adrian Clarke has described him as ‘brilliant’ – adding quality and goal threat to a team who are already thriving at the moment, grabbing ten points from their last four games.

In other news, Tim Spiers has delivered a key Wolves injury update. Read more here.
