Rodgers could land "exciting" Kyogo heir in Celtic move for £8.5m star

It is the start of July and this means that Celtic are finally back in action for pre-season this month to prepare for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign.

The summer transfer window officially opened for business in June and the Hoops are yet to dip into the market to bolster their options across the park as of yet.

One area in which they could look to strengthen is striker after Ireland international Adam Idah returned to Norwich City at the end of his loan deal.

Last month, Football Insider reported that Kyogo Furuhashi would be allowed to leave for an offer of £25m but it remains to be seen whether or not any teams are prepared to pay that for him.

Why Celtic need to look beyond Kyogo Furuhashi

The Japan international has been the first-choice number nine for Celtic in each of the last two Scottish Premiership seasons, with 62 starts across those two campaigns.

However, Kyogo's form in front of goal has declined over the last 12 months and Brendan Rodgers must now look to life beyond the forward at Parkhead.

As you can see in the table above, the experienced attacker's finishing has fallen off a cliff. He was incredibly wasteful in the top-flight last term, scoring just 14 goals and missing 24 'big chances'.

Kyogo Furuhashi

Kyogo also turns 30 next season and Rodgers could want a younger centre-forward to come in as his heir to offer a long-term number nine option for the Hoops.

Who Celtic could replace Kyogo Furuhashi with

The Hoops reportedly hold a long-standing interest in Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden, who is valued at around £8.5m, and he could be the perfect heir to the current Celtic marksman.

Like Kyogo, he is not a traditional, towering, number nine. The Danish whiz stands at 5 foot 8, one inch taller than the Japanese ace, and can provide an agile, dynamic, forward option for the Bhoys, rather than being a target man.

As you can see in the table above, the 22-year-old striker is also coming off the back of a solid season in the Superliga, with 13 direct goal contributions in 18 starts.

Kvistgaarden, who was once described as one of a number of "exciting" young stars by talent scout Jacek Kulig, also scored six goals and provided four assists in nine starts in the Championship Round in the Superliga at the end of last term.

This means that the Celtic target has racked up 14 goals and nine assists in his last 27 league starts, along with boasting a higher conversion rate than Kyogo.

At the age of 22, Kvistgaarden is also seven years younger than the Japan international and has plenty of time left to develop and improve, which could make him a terrific long-term signing for the club.

Overall, the £8.5m gem appears to be a dream heir to the current Hoops forward due to his playstyle, threat in front of goal, age, and clinical finishing, which is why Rodgers should swoop for him this summer.

Quizzed on Messi’s claims to the MVP award, ex-Barcelona defender Alba told reporters: "Every time you ask me, I think that he deserves all the awards that they can give him. Ben Duckett has committed to Nottinghamshire at least until the end of 2023, after a breakthrough season with the club which culminated in a starring role in their second T20 Blast title in four years.Duckett, 26, was named as Nottinghamshire’s Player of the Year for 2020 after amassing 734 runs across the Bob Willis Trophy and Blast in the truncated English season, averaging 56 and 43 respectively.Having joined the club from Northants midway through 2018, he endured a tough season in 2019 as Notts were relegated from the top flight of the Championship without a single victory in 14 games. But Duckett found his form across formats this year, and finished the season in style, cracking 53 not out from 38 balls to see off Surrey in the Blast final at Edgbaston in October.”Coming to Trent Bridge has been everything I wanted it to be and more,” Duckett said. “We have a group of ambitious cricketers all pulling in the same direction, the support we have from the coaches is second-to-none and I’m hugely excited about what I believe we can achieve in all forms of the game.”We share a determination to challenge for trophies, and we hope lifting the Blast last season can be the start of something special.”Duckett posted two first-class hundreds in the Bob Willis Trophy, cementing his place at No.3 with 116 against Lancashire and 150 against Durham, and he also contributed four half-centuries to the Blast campaign, including that role in the final.”Ben has improved steadily over the past 12 months,” Peter Moores, Notts’ head coach. “He had a clear picture of the sort of player he wanted to become after a tough season in 2019.”He should take a lot of credit for sticking to his guns after getting some good balls in the first few games. He backed what he had worked on and went on to become our leading run-scorer in the Bob Willis Trophy.”He was the glue within the T20 team, scoring at a really good rate, manipulating the ball to all areas of the ground and always scoring when needed.”He gauged the run-chase in the Final brilliantly, which was a credit to all the work he had done before. The fact that he made it look so straightforward is credit to him, and it was fitting that he was there to hit the winning runs and get us over the line.”

Sheffield Wednesday must avoid future Vaulks repeat with £1.1m-rated ace

Sheffield Wednesday look to be nearing towards a number of new signings, having now confirmed the shock swoop of former Blades defender Max Lowe recently, as they aim to soften the blow of Will Vaulks' exit.

The central midfield warrior has now officially left Hillsborough behind for pastures new at Oxford United, joining the newly promoted side U's over sticking it out in South Yorkshire, which will sting from Wednesday's perspective.

The former Rotherham United man made 37 appearances for Danny Rohl's men last campaign, as they pulled off an almighty relegation escape, with worries now getting the better of the Owls that other stalwarts will exit further down the line.

Any concern about Callum Paterson joining Vaulks out of the door has been quashed for now, with Wednesday's retained list confirming a new deal had been activated for the long-standing servant, who can star under Rohl next campaign.

Callum Paterson's numbers for Wednesday

The 29-year-old is now very much part of the furniture in South Yorkshire, having amassed 155 appearances for the Owls since joining in 2020, proving himself to be a dependable and versatile squad member in the process.

Yet, last campaign was, arguably, the rockiest patch of his lengthy Hillsborough stay to date, which saw him go missing for large portions of the season, with only 25 games tallied up in the end in the league.

Therefore, there must have been a real concern he would be just allowed to leave this summer like Vaulks, but he did prove his worth towards the business end of the gruelling campaign, as Wednesday bravely battled to stave off the Championship drop-zone.

Paterson would feature in some capacity, often being utilised as a late substitute, in all of Wednesday's unbeaten six-game run to close out the dramatic season, managing to win 100% of his duels in his team's final home win against West Bromwich Albion, despite only being on the pitch for 14 minutes.

Endearing himself to the hardened Wednesday masses by excelling in their promotion story of the 2022/23 season too, with ten goal contributions managed, it would have been a sad end to his time with the Owls if he did abruptly exit like Vaulks.

It would've been even more of a bitter pill to swallow, losing the 29-year-old for potentially nothing, when you consider his transfer value – according to Football Transfers – hasn't been dented that much despite his lack of game-time.

Paterson's transfer value in 2024

Paterson's valuation is still sitting at a pretty hefty £1.1m, even after finding himself on the periphery at points last campaign under Rohl, which actually sees him come in as being more of a valued asset than Barry Bannan currently, in the German manager's tight-knit camp.

The Scottish attacking midfielder is worth a lesser £1m in contrast, even whilst donning the captain's armband for the Owls last season, which further reinforces the fact that keeping the 29-year-old was the correct call, instead of letting him leave.

Never seeing his value fall below £500k since joining from Cardiff City in 2020, it would have been a disaster to lose Paterson for nothing, with his price tag now double that.

Vaulks, in contrast, would walk away from South Yorkshire with an estimated lesser value of £591k next to his name compared to Paterson's £1.1m, with Rohl's men now waiting to see if they regret letting the Welshman go down the line, or whether it was the swift decision they had to make at the time.

Dread over Paterson's future will, no doubt, become a pain at the end of the next campaign, despite it being solved for the time being, as his contract nears close to its expiry date once more.

Postecoglou gives green light for £100,000-a-week Tottenham player to leave

After missing out on Champions League qualification last season, Ange Postecoglou has reportedly given the green light for Tottenham Hotspur to sanction the exit of one of last season's regular features.

Tottenham transfer news

The Premier League saw plenty of glimpses of promise from Spurs and Postecoglou last season, especially at the start of the season, but their drop-off in form at the end of the campaign exposed their lack of depth for all to see. When the likes of Destiny Udogie and Micky van de Ven suffered injuries, the lack of quality beyond Spurs' starting side was instantly apparent, as the likes of Emerson Royal failed to step up.

Tottenham and Levy make first move for "confident" £30m player at Euro 2024

The Lilywhites have held talks.

ByTom Cunningham Jun 16, 2024

Perhaps aware of that, the Lilywhites could be in for a busy summer transfer window. Already, they've been linked with Eberechi Eze and Takefusa Kubo. Two attacking players, it seems as though Heung-min Son could finally get the attacking talent around him that Spurs have arguably lacked since Harry Kane's exit last summer.

Eze, called up to Gareth Southgate's England squad for Euro 2024 this summer, would especially add the creative spark to get the best out of Son and the rest of Spurs' attack. But it's not just incomings that look to be on the cards this summer.

According to The Daily Star via Football London, Postecoglou has given the green light for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to leave Tottenham this summer, with Jose Mourinho eyeing a reunion with the midfielder at Fenerbahce. Reportedly valued at £20m by Spurs, the Dane has been linked with Juventus, Napoli, Fulham and now Fenerbahce, as a crucial career decision awaits.

Hojbjerg struggled for a consistent starting role in Postecoglou's debut campaign but did feature regularly off the bench, and with just one year left on his current contract, Spurs look set cash in this summer to avoid eventually losing the midfielder for free.

"Professional" Hojbjerg needs Tottenham exit

After starting just eight Premier League games last season, Hojbjerg must take this summer as an opportunity to move on with a number of impressive interested parties in his signature. What's more, his exit would also be a win for Spurs if they managed to receive their £20m asking price and clear Hojbjerg's reported £100k-a-week wage, before reinvesting that in a younger, more suitable option for Postecoglou.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Despite green-lighting a move this summer though, the Spurs boss was full of praise for Hojbjerg at the start of last season, saying via The Independent: “With Pierre, he is a professional and very determined to win a spot in the team. He presents himself well every day and over a 38-game season all of these guys will get an opportunity at some point. What they do with that is up to them.

“In the meantime, what is important is if they want to keep getting opportunities, they have to train well and when they do play, whether they start or not, they contribute to the team.”

Of course, eight months later and it's clear that whatever opportunity that the Australian gave Hojbjerg, it was not enough with both parties seemingly on course to part ways this summer.

Everton in talks to sign perfect Onana replacement who scored 18x in 23/24

With the new Premier League season only a month or so away, Everton are tirelessly trying to make new additions to pull the club further clear of any potential relegation battle.

Sean Dyche conducted an excellent job last season, leading the Toffees to survival by 14 points despite receiving two separate points deductions for breaching PSR – totalling a combined eight points.

Everton’s financial situation has been widely reported, but it’s not stopping Dyche and the hierarchy from further bolstering his squad, with Jack Harrison and Tim Iroegbunam already through the doors at Goodison Park.

However, the club may yet still have to offload a couple of first-team members to further improve their off-the-field situation, with Amadou Onana one of the most likely to depart from Merseyside given his huge market value of £42m as per Transfermarkt.

It would be a huge loss for the Toffees, but the club are already targeting suitable replacements for the Belgian, with Dyche’s side already in talks with one club over a deal for a talented midfielder.

Everton interested in signing £30m talent

According to journalist Graeme Bailey, Everton are one of several Premier League clubs to have have held talks with Celtic over the signing of midfielder Matt O’Riley this summer.

Celtic'sMattO'Riley

Fulham, West Ham United, Brentford and Southampton have also held talks with the Scottish club over a move for the Denmark international, with Brendan Rodgers’ side demanding a fee of £30m for his services.

The interest in his signature is hardly a surprise given his form north of the border last season, with O’Riley scoring 18 goals and registering 13 assists in his 37 Scottish Premiership outings – figures that earned him the club’s Player of the Year award.

Whilst the Toffees may face tough competition for his signature, he would massively improve Dyche’s midfield, proving to be an excellent replacement for Onana should he depart the club during the off-season.

Why O’Riley would be the perfect replacement for Onana

Whilst Onana impressed at Goodison last season, the potential addition of O’Riley could transform Dyche’s midfield, giving the Everton boss a new option and potentially solving the club’s current goalscoring issues.

The 23-year-old Dane registered a total of 31 goal contributions in his 37 league matches, a tally that Onana simply couldn’t get anywhere near, with the Belgian more focused on the defensive side of the game rather than attacking.

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

However, despite Onana’s defensive nature, he couldn’t match O’Riley’s tallies for various defensive attributes, with the “phenomenal” Celtic talent, as dubbed by current boss Rodgers, averaging more interceptions and blocks per 90 last season.

He also excelled with the ball at his feet, averaging more progressive passes and progressive carries than the current Everton star, with O’Riley the perfect box-to-box option for the Toffees.

No Everton fan would want the club to part ways with Onana this summer, but if a huge offer came in, the club simply couldn’t refuse, with any funds crucial in their battle against PSR.

Whilst O’Riley himself would cost the club a pretty penny, he has all the attributes to thrive in the Premier League, potentially allowing Dyche to forget about the Belgian and transform his side into a more possession-based and attacking side.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

After providing a tough challenge to Manchester City in the Premier League title race in the last two seasons, Arteta's men are hoping to finally cross the line this time. They are off to an impressive start in the current campaign, having suffered just one defeat thus far. They are currently third in the league table, four points behind leaders Liverpool.

  • WHAT TONY ADAMS SAID

Speaking to the Mirror, Adams said: "You need a great squad to win the Champions League because sometimes you can lose focus on one competition when you're going for the other. In 2005 Liverpool won it when they were nowhere near the title and Tottenham of course, got to the final in 2019. Listen, if Tottenham can get to the final – anybody can.

"You need a little bit of luck, I don't want to be flippant but back in my day, I was out of Europe for five years. Nowadays, you are getting more and more chances to win it and it's not beyond the realms of possibility that Arsenal might actually win the Champions League and the Premier League."

Slot personally keen on Liverpool move for "excellent" Euro 2024 sensation

With Arne Slot officially unveiled, the new Liverpool boss has already reportedly turned his attention towards a Euro 2024 sensation in what would be one of the deals of the summer.

Liverpool transfer news

Over a month since his arrival was officially announced, Slot gave his first interview as Liverpool boss as he prepares to complete the near-impossible job of succeeding Jurgen Klopp. Speaking for the first time since taking the role, the Dutchman told Liverpool's media channels: "I would say energised because of the holiday I had.

"Excited, really looking forward to the new challenge which is ahead of me. We are, of course, looking at the training ground, which is fantastic, so there are a lot of things to look forward to. The team is coming back in a few weeks and yeah, [I am] looking forward to a new start after a nice period I had at Feyenoord."

Liverpool could sign a "monster" £34m Leny Yoro alternative

This talented defender would be perfect for Arne Slot’s brand of football.

ByAngus Sinclair Jun 20, 2024

What's more, now that the transfer window now open, the former Feyenoord boss can begin to make his mark alongside Richard Hughes, with a keen eye seemingly on Euro 2024 and one particular star.

According to reports in Spain, via TeamTalk, Slot is now personally keen to sign Arda Guler for Liverpool following the Turkey star's spotlight-stealing performances at the Euros and doubts beginning to creep in over his game-time alongside a star-studded Real Madrid attack next season. The 19-year-old winger scored one of the goals of the tournament so far in Turkey's 3-1 win over Georgia.

Still a teenager, there's plenty more to come from Guler, but if Madrid can't find space for such a talent alongside the likes of Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe, Rodrigo and Endrick, then their loss should be Liverpool's gain this summer.

"Excellent" Guler is a ready-made Salah successor

With Mohamed Salah into the final year of his current Liverpool deal and now 32 years old, the Reds would be wise to line up an eventual replacement in Guler. The rest of Europe saw exactly what his left foot is capable of against Georgia and it's the type of quality that would instantly stand out at Anfield. When opportunities came his way at Madrid before the Euros too, he was just as clinical.

In just 377 minutes – the same as just over four games – Guler managed to outperform his expected goals by almost five to highlight just how ruthless he is in front of goal at such a young age.

It's no surprise that he's received such high praise and that praise is only likely to increase after the Euros. If the likes of Liverpool didn't see the Turkish sensation as a ready-made Salah replacement, then they certainly should after the tournament. Following an end to the season described as "excellent" by Alex Barker, Guler has the chance to steal further headlines this summer.
