Fabrizio Romano: West Ham submit proposal to sign 22 y/o star after talks

With Julen Lopetegui's first summer in charge at the London Stadium now well underway, West Ham United's new boss appears to have his eye on a number of new attacking players.

Hammers hope to bring in attacking reinforcements

With forward players the priority for the Hammers this summer, the club have already got one new player over the line in the form of Luis Guilherme. The Brazilian winger arrived at the London Stadium in a £25million move from Palmeiras.

The Hammers are now looking to follow up the signing of Guilherme by bringing in a new centre forward. Recent rumours have seen West Ham linked with a move for Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin who could be sold this summer in order to satisfy the Toffees' ongoing financial struggles.

Another name in West Ham's sights is Eddie Nketiah who is said to be surplus to requirements at Arsenal this summer. The Hammers are said to be readying a move for the striker who could be available for as little as £25million during the transfer window.

With forward players high on the Hammers' shopping list, the club are now in talks to sign a sought-after talent from the Championship.

West Ham submit proposal for Leeds United star

As first reported on the X account of Fabrizio Romano, West Ham have submitted an initial proposal to sign Crysencio Summerville from Leeds United. Romano claims that talks have taken place on the player's side, however, an agreement is still some way from being reached.

The Dutch winger is in demand this summer after contributing 19 goals and nine assists in the regular Championship season last time out. Whilst Leeds fell at the final hurdle in their quest for Premier League football last term, Summerville could soon be playing his football in England's top flight next season.

Recent rumours have seen Newcastle United, Chelsea and Aston Villa all linked with a move for the 22-year-old with the Hammers now throwing their hat in the ring to bring the player to East London. This race for Summerville's signature is to be expected after the winger's exploits in West Yorkshire saw him earn the Championship's Player of the Season award.

Speaking on Summerville's displays in the second tier, Leeds boss Daniel Farke was quick to praise the player's performances telling the press:

"He is playing an outstanding season in terms of performances, end product and also his willingness to work for the team, to be there and deliver on a daily basis even in training, otherwise you can’t deliver consistency in this league.”

With a number of Premier League sides showing an interest in signing Summerville this summer, it could be a fight for the Hammers to get a deal over the line. Despite this, the Dutchman is no doubt a player who could be a quality addition to Lopetegui's side.

Chelsea in advanced talks to sign £20 million player with Wiley, deal close

Chelsea are in ongoing advanced talks to sign a £20 million player alongside their move for Atlanta United ace Caleb Wiley, and a deal for the former is deemed to be close as well.

Chelsea seal flurry of signings in busy early summer window

Todd Boehly and the Stamford Bridge hierarchy have orchestrated a busy window thus far with six new signings sealed, including the widely reported newest addition of Basel defender Renato Veiga, who is due in London for his medical ahead of a near-£12 million transfer (Simon Collings).

The aforementioned crop take Chelsea's spending up to around £93 million, with around £89 million brought in through the sales of Michael Golding, Ian Maatsen, Lewis Hall and Omari Hutchinson.

Soon, their expenditure will go up to £101.5 million, as it is believed Chelsea are set to sign Wiley from Atlanta United in a deal worth £8.5 million. The left-back, who got the nod from his native USA to represent them at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, made 22 appearances in all competitions for the MLS side last term and seemingly impressed scouts with his performances across the Atlantic.

The 19-year-old's pending arrival sees co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley add yet another wonderkid to Chelsea's books, but he won't be involved with the first team next season, as the west Londoners plan to loan him to sister club Strasbourg in France.

Caleb Wiley for Atlanta.

That is according to BBC journalist Nizaar Kinsella, who also shares an update on Chelsea move for Boca Juniors centre-back Aaron Anselmino. Enzo Maresca's side have been in discussions over the teenager since the end of last month, with reports claiming Boca value him at around £20 million.

This also comes after Fabrizio Romano's claim that Chelsea could end up signing multiple central defenders this summer after Tosin.

"It will continue to be a busy summer at Chelsea," wrote the reporter last month. "It won’t be completely crazy but they will try to make smart things happen, including a new goalkeeper and I expect them to try for at least one new centre-back, but it could be two. I also expect Chelsea to be busy with the striker position."

Chelsea in advanced talks to sign Anselmino with deal close

As per Kinsella, writing an update on X late Monday night, Chelsea are in advanced talks to sign Anselmino with a deal deemed to be close.

"Chelsea are set to sign defender Caleb Wiley for around £8.5million on a seven year deal," wrote Kinsella. "He’ll go on loan to Strasbourg. The advanced talks to sign Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors are still ongoing but it is deemed close, while Renato Veiga’s deal will soon be announced."

The 19-year-old boasts 10 senior first team appearances for Boca, scoring once in that time, and appears highly-rated.

Newcastle and PIF racing to sign £30m "monster" with same agent as Trippier

Amid a frustrating transfer window so far, Newcastle United chiefs are now reportedly racing to sign a defensive reinforcement for Eddie Howe who is represented by the same agency as Kieran Trippier.

Newcastle transfer news

The Magpies and PIF were quick out of the blocks this summer, welcoming Lloyd Kelly on a free deal, but that has since been nothing more than somewhat of a false start. Since Kelly, Newcastle have only managed to sign John Ruddy and Odysseas Vlachomidos, whilst selling prospects such as Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively.

Sky Sports: Newcastle back in to sign £35m player approved by Paul Mitchell

The Magpies have been chasing the player for some time.

1 ByTom Coates Jul 23, 2024

For a side with some of the richest owners in the Premier League, it's been an incredibly disappointing window, which has perhaps been limited by the fear of breaking profit and sustainability rules. Nonetheless, given that the new campaign is now less than a month away from kicking off, things could yet ramp up at St James' Park on the transfer front.

The likes of Crysencio Summerville have recently been linked to the Tyneside club, but it could be a Premier League defender that the Magpies turn towards before anyone else. According to GiveMeSport, Newcastle chiefs are racing to sign Trevoh Chalobah in a deal worth a reported £30m this summer. Chelsea recently omitted their academy graduate from their pre-season tour in an attempt to force his exit in what could benefit Newcastle.

As revealed by Fabrizio Romano, however, Newcastle aren't alone in their interest and now face a fight to secure Chalobah's signature without European football to offer. They may hope to gain an edge by using their relationship with the defender's agent, given that Trippier is represented by the same agency.

"Monster" Chalobah could compete with Schar and Botman

Signing Chalobah seems like business that Newcastle should be chasing this summer. For £30m, his arrival could far from break the bank or leave them in trouble with PSR.

Trevoh Chalobah

Meanwhile, Chelsea's current stance means that the Magpies should be able to strike a fairly simple deal for the right price. If they reach an agreement with the Blues, then Howe could be getting a centre-back who would instantly compete with Sven Botman and Fabian Schar.

Imagine him & Kyogo: Rodgers must boldly unleash "magic" Celtic star

Celtic kick off their 2024/25 campaign in the Scottish Premiership this evening as they prepare to host Kilmarnock at Parkhead in their first game.

Brendan Rodgers starts his second season in his second spell in Glasgow and will be hoping to secure the league title once again, whilst also competing well across all competitions.

His side enjoyed an impressive pre-season with four wins in five games and eight goals scored across two wins against Manchester City and Chelsea.

The Northern Irishman now has the difficult task of selecting a starting XI to play against Kilmarnock and the boss must boldly unleash Mikey Johnston from the start alongside Kyogo Furuhashi.

Kyogo Furuhashi's impressive pre-season

The Japan international caught the eye throughout pre-season and is currently the club’s only senior striker option, after Hyeon-gyu Oh moved to Genk and Adam Idah returned to Norwich City.

Kyogo plundered six goals in five pre-season matches and found the back of the net in the wins over both Chelsea and Manchester City, which shows that he is heading into the Premiership campaign full of confidence.

His form over the summer will be particularly pleasing for Rodgers after the forward endured a difficult 2023/24 campaign in front of goal in the top-flight.

As you can see in the table above, the Japanese attacker missed a staggering 24 ‘big chances’ and only scored 14 goals in 38 outings in the division.

Why Mikey Johnston should start with Kyogo

With Kyogo starting through the middle, Rodgers must boldly unleash Johnston from the start on the left flank ahead of Daizen Maeda after his impressive spell on loan with West Bromwich Albion last season.

The Ireland international scored two goals in his last three pre-season outings for Celtic this summer and appears to be grasping his opportunity to come back to Glasgow and fight for a place in the starting XI.

In the Championship last term, Johnston scored seven goals and did not miss a single ‘big chance’ in 18 appearances for the Baggies, as he showcased his goalscoring prowess.

Mikey Johnston

Meanwhile, Maeda only scored six goals and missed a whopping 12 ‘big chances’ in 28 outings in the Premiership for Celtic from a left wing position, which immediately suggests that the Irish sensation has the potential to offer far more quality as a finisher.

The Japan international also created five ‘big chances’ for his teammates and made 0.5 key passes per game for the Hoops in those 28 appearances, whilst Johnston created four ‘big chances’ and made 1.2 key passes per match in just 18 matches.

During Sky Sports coverage of West Brom’s 3-1 play-off loss to Southampton (17/05/24), commentator Gary Weaver claimed that the winger had “magic in his boots” and the 25-year-old ace’s statistics back that up.

Celtic turn attention to £3m star who'd be a better signing than Idah

The Hoops are reportedly interested in a swoop for the Premiership star this summer.

4 ByDan Emery Aug 1, 2024

He is a talented forward who can provide more quality than Maeda as a scorer and a creator of goals and that is why Rodgers must boldly unleash him to cause havoc in the final third alongside Kyogo against Kilmarnock today.

Aston Villa line up Euro 2024 star who’d be a dream next to Watkins

Aston Villa are preparing for a season of Champions League football after qualifying for the prestigious continental competition with a fourth-place Premier League finish last year.

Despite selling Douglas Luiz to Juventus – a necessary evil to placate PSR – the Villans have made some exciting additions over the past few weeks, and there is more still to come.

Aston Villa transfer news

According to Turkish outlet Sabah, Aston Villa are set to rival Manchester United for the signing of Baris Alper Yilmaz, who enjoyed success with Turkey at Euro 2024.

It's believed that Villa and the Red Devils have already shown an interest in the versatile forward, but that offers from Spain, Italy and Frace are forthcoming. Emery and Co need to move quickly.

Especially given another report claims that Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are moving for the €30m (£25m)-rated dynamo.

What Yilmaz would bring to Aston Villa

Ollie Watkins was crowned Aston Villa's Player of the Season last year after a truly exceptional campaign, plundering 27 goals and 13 assists across all competitions.

For a rising star like Yilmaz, having the chance to play alongside such a player must leave him giddy, with the 24-year-old having made his name in his homeland but now attracting interest across Europe, having scored seven goals and supplied 12 more across all competitions last season.

He might not have notched a goal contribution at the Euros but Yilmaz certainly left his mark on the tournament, averaging one key pass, 1.6 dribbles and 5.8 successful duels per game, as per Sofascore.

Moreover, he's been described as "tremendous fun to watch playing football" by sports broadcaster Stephen Doyle, capable of bringing the spark to the Villa first team.

Ollie Watkins for Aston Villa

For such reasons, the Turk would prove to be a brilliant partner for Watkins, with his creativity and thorny presence for opponents opening up space for the free-scoring striker – who could also return the favour, having been the Premier League's top playmaker last term with 13 assists.

Watkins ranks among the top 3% of forwards across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for assists and maintains an intense and fluid approach to his forward play, something that could see an exciting partnership born.

Implementing another attacking talent with a range of different qualities could be advantageous to Villa as they look to compete across multiple high-stakes fronts next term.

They've got to get this one done.

Naveen-ul-Haq signs for Leicestershire as T20 Blast overseas player

Left-arm wristspinner Jake Lintott signs first professional contract at Warwickshire, aged 27

Matt Roller12-Feb-2021Leicestershire have announced the signing of Naveen-ul-Haq, the Afghanistan seamer, as an overseas player for the T20 Blast.Naveen, 21, has quickly developed a reputation as one of the game’s best young death bowlers, with an array of slower balls and an action that evokes Jasprit Bumrah. He has played in the CPL, LPL and Abu Dhabi T10 in recent months, and will become the second Afghanistan international to play for Leicestershire after Mohammad Nabi in 2018.”I am delighted to have signed for Leicestershire in the T20 Blast,” Naveen said. “It has always been an ambition of mine to play county cricket in England.”I have heard great things about the T20 Blast. It is exciting to be joining Paul Nixon and his talented squad. I hope to help the team push for T20 silverware this year.”Nixon, Leicestershire’s head coach, said: “Naveen is an extremely consistent T20 performer in all global competitions. His clever changes of pace mixed with quicker balls delivered with his unique bowling action make it very tough for opposing batsmen.”As well as being a talented player under pressure, our young team will learn a lot from a high-class performer like Naveen.”Leicestershire were one ball away from reaching their first Finals Day since 2011 in last summer’s Blast. Their quarter-final against Nottinghamshire ended in a tie thanks to a final-ball misfield in the deep, and they were eliminated having lost more wickets. They announced the signing of Wiaan Mulder, the South Africa allrounder, as an overseas player for the County Championship and Royal London Cup last month, and confirmed this week that Callum Parkinson – the twin brother of England spinner Matt – has been installed as vice-captain following a contract extension.Related

Elsewhere, left-arm wristspinner Jake Lintott has signed his first professional contract at the age of 27, with Warwickshire tying him to a three-year deal. Lintott took 10 wickets in last year’s Blast while conceding just 6.30 runs per over, and has signed a deal to play for the club across formats.”Jake made a fantastic impression during our Vitality Blast campaign in 2020 and we’re thrilled to secure his immediate future with the club,” Paul Farbrace, Warwickshire’s director of cricket, said. “Slow left-arm unorthodox bowlers are not easy to discover and Jake provides another dimension to our spin bowling attack, alongside slow left-arm orthodox Danny Briggs and offspinner Alex Thomson.””It’s been a long time coming but it’s an amazing feeling to secure my first full contract in the professional game,” Lintott said. “To join such a big county with the traditions of Warwickshire and to make Edgbaston my home ground for the foreseeable future is something that I have always aspired to.”
