Glasgow Rangers are reportedly “interested” in signing a Manchester City youngster who has now made his next major career decision.
Rangers announce Meghoma arrival
It’s already been an incredibly busy summer at Ibrox. With just under two weeks remaining until the transfer window slams shut, Russell Martin has welcomed as many as 11 fresh faces as he looks to transform a Rangers side in desperate need of a turnaround.
Jayden Meghoma became the latest to arrive earlier this week when he put pen to paper on a season-long loan move from Premier League side Brentford. His arrival follows a trend of talent from English football deciding to join up with Martin in Scotland this summer.
After putting pen to paper, the 19-year-old left-back told Rangers’ official website: “I am very excited to be here, it is a fantastic club, and I know a lot about the rich history of Rangers.
“When the deal was presented to me, I thought straight away that it would be a fantastic opportunity for myself and my family. The main thing for me is getting results. Rangers is a big club, and I am ready, I am hungry and excited to get going.”
Even worse than Jefte: Euro club set for talks with Rangers to sign £4m dud

ByDan Emery Aug 19, 2025
Likely to replace Jefte if he decides to depart amid reports that the Brazilian has reached an agreement to join Palmeiras, Meghoma should have no concerns about game time at Ibrox.
At a time when Martin is still trying to get the best out of his side too, the teenager has the ultimate opportunity to work his way into the Gers’ strongest team.
He’s not the only Premier League youngster who found himself on Rangers’ radar this summer, though. Reports are now suggesting that Rangers are “interested” in signing a Manchester City gem.
Rangers "interested" in Callum Doyle
According to The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell, Rangers are “interested” in signing Callum Doyle, but the Manchester City youngster has already decided to join Wrexham over the Scottish giants. The decision to join the Championship side in a deal worth as much as £8m has come down to location rather than current form or stage of either project.
At 21 years old, Doyle would have represented an impressive coup for Rangers. The young centre-back is full of potential and earned plenty of praise during his last loan spell away from the Etihad at Norwich City.
The youngster’s then-defensive partner Shane Duffy told reporters last season: “He’s got the world at his feet. He’s such a good player,” Duffy said. “Firstly, I think he’s just a great guy, he’s a great guy and he just wants to learn.
“It’s not like I haven’t enjoyed playing with Jose [Cordoba] or Grant [Hanley], but me and Callum have got this understanding. Callum probably understands English football a little bit more than Jose – he’s still adapting and has a massive future. I’m sure he will be playing soon.”
As things stand, however, Rangers are set to miss out on the young defender and must turn their attention to other options before the window slams shut.
Austin FC and Nashville SC each booked their first U.S. Open Cup Final appearances on a dramatic semifinal night. In St. Paul, CJ Fodrey’s 120th-minute strike gave Austin a 2-1 extra-time win over Minnesota United, while in Nashville, Sam Surridge fired a hat trick to lead the Boys in Gold past Philadelphia Union 3-1 at GEODIS Park.

Making history
Austin absorbed long stretches of Minnesota pressure – the hosts fired off 22 shots and found their equalizer through Joaquín Pereyra’s curling free kick in the 67th minute – yet Estévez’s side never lost composure. Brad Stuver’s late one-on-one save kept the dream alive before Fodrey’s decisive strike sealed a night that showcased both Austin’s defensive grit and its newfound knack for seizing the biggest moments.
They will now meet Nashville SC, who also broke new ground by advancing to their first U.S. Open Cup Final. The Boys in Gold secured a 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union at GEODIS Park, powered by a hat trick from Golden Boot leader and MVP candidate Sam Surridge. While the club previously reached the Leagues Cup Final in 2023, this marks their first chance to lift a domestic trophy in front of their growing fanbase.

Success story for player development
Fodrey's recent success highlights a win for Austin FC's academy system. The 21-year-old forward has now scored two match-winners in his last three appearances across all competitions, demonstrating remarkable composure in pressure situations.
In Nashville, the rise of Surridge continues as the former Nottingham Forest striker continues to state his case for MLS MVP and has brought the team to its second final.

Austin FC to face Nashville SC in U.S. Open Cup final
Austin FC will host Nashville SC in the U.S. Open Cup Final at Q2 Stadium on Oct. 1.
A victory for either side would represent the first major professional trophy in both club and city history. For Austin, it would be a landmark achievement for the city’s first top-flight franchise, while in Nashville, neither the NFL’s Titans nor the NHL’s Predators have ever captured a championship despite prior finals appearances. Beyond the silverware, the winner will also earn a berth in the 2026 CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has a plethora of star players in his squad, and some have been reduced to fewer minutes than they’d like.
BlueCo are spearheading another major reshuffle of the squad, and perhaps even more so this summer, with the expectation being that Chelsea are poised to offload many more squad members as new players fill their spaces.
Carney Chukwuemeka, Axel Disasi, Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson and Alfie Gilchrist could all still leave Stamford Bridge before the summer transfer deadline on September 1, as UEFA pressure Chelsea to produce a positive transfer balance by next month.
The aforementioned seven could follow a host of players out the door, with Kepa Arrizabalaga, Basir Humphreys, Noni Madueke, Marcus Bettinelli, Mathis Amougou, Djordje Petrovic, João Félix, Ishe Samuels-Smith, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Armando Broja and Lesley Ugochukwu parting company permanently.
For most of a portion of this window, defender Benoit Badiashile has also been linked with exit door, but the Frenchman’s future has proved more complicated.
While Badiashile isn’t exactly at the forefront of Maresca’s plans, starting just three Premier League games last season, he did play in all but two games of their Conference League campaign.
The 24-year-old was a firm regular of their ‘B team’ last term, so to speak, but remains behind the likes of Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah and Levi Colwill in the pecking order.
Unfortunately for Maresca, Colwill is now set to miss most of the new campaign after damaging his ACL in training, with Chelsea thought to be exploring new centre-back options in the transfer market as a result.
Chelsea could even sign a new defender on an emergency loan, according to some reports, but any deal for the right player will be hard to do considering how late it is in the window.
They also remain in ongoing talks to sign both Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho respectively, and bringing in the attacking duo would take Chelsea’s summer spending to well past the £300 million mark.
Maresca could well be forced to consider more internal solutions to their centre-back shortage, with Badiashile now receiving plenty of support at Cobham.
Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile praised by staff behind-the-scenes
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, speaking on the London is Blue podcast this week, the former AS Monaco man is earning real admiration from members of the Chelsea staff.
Those within the club are convinced that Badiashile can develop into a consistent and reliable player for Chelsea, with Maresca told to take note of the ex-Ligue 1 star as a potential option – even if he’s currently injured himself right now.
Badiashile is expected back around September, though, so he could soon come in as cover for Colwill if Maresca opts to head in that direction.
In another interview on Playback, Jacobs also revealed that Badiashile has a fierce work ethic, with there being a growing sense that his signing has “slipped under the radar”.
Manchester United find themselves needing to work within certain financial parameters, which may lead them to bring in a well-known free agent if reports are to be believed.
Diego Leon becomes latest star to join Man Utd
Matheus Cunha became Manchester United’s first arrival of the window after moving to Old Trafford from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and another South American talent has now joined him in the form of Paraguay Under-20 international Diego Leon.
Coming in from Cerro Porteno, the left-back stated upon his arrival: “First of all, I want to thank God for giving me the opportunity to defend such a great badge as Manchester United. I promise to give my best every day, in training, on the pitch, and off it. Thank you to the club for the trust and to my family for always being by my side.
“I hope to bring a lot of joy to all the Manchester United fans and everyone who supports me on this journey. One more goal achieved. From Paraguay to the world. Let’s go, Red Devils!”
Bryan Mbeumo is at the top of Manchester United’s wishlist, and there is still hope the Red Devils could finalise a deal to sign the Cameroon international by Monday after weeks of both parties trying to find an agreement.
Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz could be brought in at Old Trafford to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s engine room, with Jadon Sancho heading in the opposite direction after his spell at Chelsea.

Missing out on Champions League qualification has left Manchester United needing to juggle their finances to conduct business this summer without falling foul of the authorities, leading them to enter the race for an unattached England international.
Man Utd in contact to sign free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin
According to The Sun, Manchester United want to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and they have made contact with the former Everton striker to ascertain whether he would be interested in a ‘shock’ move to Old Trafford.
The England international earned £100,000 per week at the Toffees and would likely command a hefty pay packet. However, the Red Devils are willing to put forward a ‘lucrative’ deal including appearance-based bonuses to land his services, with Amorim personally keen on the striker.

Labelled “dangerous” by Ian Wright, the 28-year-old is seen as a reliable third or fourth striking choice at Manchester United. He would also carry the carrot of homegrown status for registration purposes.
Nevertheless, Calvert-Lewin has suffered numerous injury problems over the last few years and managed only 26 appearances last term, scoring three times.
On his day, the former Sheffield United man is an effective focal point and a tough competitor for defenders, though it is fair to say his recent statistics don’t point to him being a prolific option should he make the move to Old Trafford.

Manchester City’s deal to sign an “incredible” star is now advancing following positive talks, and he can’t wait to seal a move to the Etihad Stadium, according to a report.
Man City planning to move swiftly in the transfer market
Man City’s season ended on May 25th, with a 2-0 victory at Fulham securing qualification for next season’s Champions League, but this year it is a very quick turnaround, as they return to action on June 18th, taking on Wydad Casablanca in the new-look Club World Cup.
As such, chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has confirmed that City are looking to get new signings through the door as soon as possible.

With the transfer window now open for an initial 10 days, in order to allow teams to register players for the Club World Cup, Pep Guardiola’s side are looking to get a deal done for an attacking midfielder, with Kevin De Bruyne seemingly heading to Napoli.
That is according to a report from GiveMeSport, which states productive discussions have now been held over a deal for Lyon’s Rayan Cherki, which means the move could be wrapped up in a matter of days.

Cherki can’t wait to seal a move to the Etihad Stadium, and the deal is now edging closer to completion, with Lyon looking to hold out for a fee of £35m.
City are hoping to complete the move prior to flying out to the United States for the Club World Cup, and they are also confident about striking an agreement for AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders.

"Incredible" Cherki could be ideal De Bruyne heir
Florian Wirtz was heavily linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium, but there were concerns about the total package amounting to around £253m all-in, so signing the Lyon star could be a savvy move, as it would free up funds to strengthen other areas of the squad.
Not only that, but there are plenty of signs the Frenchman could be an ideal heir for De Bruyne, most notably ranking in the 99th percentile for assists and shot-creating actions per 90 over the past year, when compared to other attacking midfielders.
At 21-years-old, the “incredible” starlet is at a good age to be a long-term success at the Etihad Stadium, and his attacking numbers for Lyon this season are arguably already approaching world-class level.

A place in Europe’s most prestigious competition will also have a far greater pull in the market when it comes to attracting their most desired targets, so their looming final Premier League clash of the season against Nottingham Forest is quite simply imperative.
A win at the City Ground would guarantee Chelsea a place in the Champions League draw next campaign, but anything less than that could spell disaster for both Maresca and Chelsea’s summer plans.

Given their participation in the Club World Cup next month, Chelsea reportedly want to take full advantage of the mini-transfer window, which opens from June 1 to June 10.
Therefore, it is little surprise we’re hearing rumours of talks being opened with top targets, and one of them is Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.
The Englishman has scored 12 league goals for an otherwise dismal Ipswich Town side who will be playing in the Championship next season, with Delap standing out as a shining light for Kieran McKenna.
His contract also includes a £30 million release clause after Ipswich’s relegation, and previous reports suggest Chelsea have met with Delap’s representatives for talks this month, as they plan a formal move for the ex-City striker.
Fabrizio Romano shares what he's heard about Liam Delap to Chelsea
Speaking to CaughtOffside, the ever-reliable Romano has echoed these claims, stating that Chelsea and Delap have indeed held talks.
However, Man United have done the same thing, with both sides sensing a “big opportunity” to prise the 22-year-old away from Portman Road at a very astute price.
“A big opportunity on the market for a young striker like him,” said Romano.
Ipswich Town'sLiamDelapreacts
“There is genuine interest from two very important clubs, Chelsea and Manchester United. Both clubs have several targets on their shortlist. Not only them, but for sure, the interest is concrete, the interest is genuine.
“Delap spoke to Chelsea, Delap spoke to Man United, now it is time for him to explore all the options possible.”
The homegrown centre-forward, barring his impressive goal record and performances in a team lacking overall quality, has been revered by his teammates this season.
“He’s phenomenal,” said Ipswich midfielder Jens Cajuste. “He’s a beast, totally and for a young player like him, it is very hard to say what he can be. I don’t think there’s a limit, really. It’s all upto him really, how far he wants to go, but he definitely has all the qualities.”
Manchester United remain in contact with the representatives of a £60 million star who rejected them three years ago, according to a new report.
Hojlund "not good enough" for United as new striker links emerge
After what has already been one of the most dismal seasons in the club’s history, Manchester United’s misery deepened on Sunday as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford.
A stunning free-kick from Pablo Sarabia sealed the win for Wolves, who are now level on points with United following the result. It was another underwhelming performance from Ruben Amorim’s side, but one player who drew particularly sharp criticism was striker Rasmus Hojlund.
The Danish forward failed to find the net once again, leaving his Premier League goal tally at just three for the season.
Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara didn’t hold back in his assessment of the 22-year-old’s display.
“Hojlund makes a massive mess of it,” O’Hara said, referencing a key moment during a United counter-attack, according to Football 365. “He’s driving through. Mainoo has made a great run. He’s in acres of space. It’s not even a hard pass and Mainoo would have a free shot on goal.”
“But Hojlund takes 20 minutes to get it out of his feet and Wolves get back to make a tackle. That sums up his Man United career: not good enough, nowhere near good enough. Hojlund does nothing up front on his own.”
United remain in contact with Sesko
If United are to bounce back next term, there’s no doubt they need to upgrade on Hojlund. A number of high-profile strikers have already been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, including Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap. Another name reportedly under serious consideration is RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Šeško.

According to the Manchester Evening News, despite Šeško turning down a move to United three years ago, the club has “maintained contact” with his representatives in the hope of reigniting a deal this summer. That ongoing communication offers some hope that the Slovenian striker could be persuaded to make the switch to Old Trafford this time around.
Leipzig value the 21-year-old at around £60 million, and he’s enjoyed a breakout season, scoring 20 goals and providing six assists in 41 appearances across all competitions – including 12 goals in the Bundesliga.

Speaking to TNT Sports, via Mail Online, Leipzig teammate Yussuf Poulsen hailed Šeško as the best striker he’s ever played alongside – no small praise considering Poulsen has previously partnered with the likes of Timo Werner, Christopher Nkunku, Matheus Cunha, Loïs Openda, André Silva and Hojlund.
“As a striker, he’s the best I’ve played with,” said Poulsen. “If you look at his abilities, he has everything a top number 9 needs. He’s still young and still learning – not necessarily the technical side of being a striker, but more the finesse. He has it all: strength, shooting, technique – everything.”
Sesko, 6 foot 4, was previously compared to Erling Haaland as a youngster due to his combination of lightning pace and sheer power.
Nottingham Forest are now interested in signing another Manchester City player alongside James McAtee this summer, according to a new report.

Forest have been heavily linked with strengthening their forward line this summer, as Nuno Espirito Santo wants to take some of the burden off Chris Wood. But the Reds are also looking at improving their midfield options, and a recent report has revealed that the Premier League side are working on a deal to sign Douglas Luiz from Juventus. Forest are set to have intensified talks with his representatives, and an offer could soon be on its way.
As well as working on potentially signing Luiz, Forest are also among the teams interested in signing McAtee from Man City. The Englishman will enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer, and while it is unclear if City are ready to sell, Forest are keeping an eye on his situation.
Nottingham Forest want to sign £100m Man City star
But McAtee is not the only City player who is on the Premier League side’s radar, as according to Caught Offside, Forest have now surprisingly joined the race to sign Jack Grealish from City.
The report states that the Reds see Grealish as a statement signing, especially if they can secure Champions League football for next season. However, they are not alone in the race for the England international, as teams such as Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, and West Ham are also keeping an eye on his situation.
Grealish, who earns £300,000 a week (£15.6m per year) at the Etihad, is under contract until the summer of 2027, but given he has played just 19 games in the Premier League this season, with only seven coming as a starter, his time with City may be coming to an end.
Since moving to the Etihad in a deal worth £100 million, his career has kind of stalled, and a move to someone like Forest could rejuvenate his football career. Despite the lack of game time, Grealish is a player Pep Guardiola likes, as he labelled him “incredible”.

“I want him to make goals and assists, and he does too, but it’s not about that. It’s about his contribution without the ball and what he can produce for the other ones. We didn’t sign Jack Grealish for the incredible goals or assists at Aston Villa. It was for another reason. He competes with top, top players as well, and he knows it perfectly. He never complains about that.”
